Battlefield 6, EA's hugely popular first-person shooter, is the latest game to face scrutiny from AI-averse fans.
This year, many games have made use of generative AI tools, and while each case is unique, they've all been criticised by players who don't want to see the technology used in game development.
Now, Battlefield 6 fans on the game's subreddit have discovered what they believe is a sign the dev team is using generative AI to create art assets.
One sticker in particular in the new Windchill cosmetics pack features telltale evidence it was made using AI.

It's a snowflake design with a soldier wielding an M4A1 rifle, but the gun has two barrels, which is not accurate to the actual weapon. For many fans, it's clear this erroneous image was made using generative AI.
While this is just one sticker, some users say there are other images that seem suspect. If one AI image exists, it's very likely there are more.
For some this will be a minor worry, or maybe won't even register as a concern, but for others, it's a more serious matter.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 uses AI-generated artwork in a similar way, and that didn't go down well either.
EA and the Battlefield 6 teams have yet to comment on it.
What are your thoughts? Do small uses of AI-generated art like this do any harm? Is it just the tip of the iceberg? Discuss in the comments section below.

It doesn’t matter if people like Ai or not at this point. All games will be using Ai in some part from now on. Most businesses use Ai now. Whilst I’m no fan of Ai and the speed and carelessness it’s being used the horse has bolted and to have faux rage over a sticker - means you don’t really understand where it will be being used elsewhere.
If you want to make a stand against Ai safer to buy no games from this point on.
Dear god. People should try picking up an actual hobby for a change. Like, you know, playing and -dare I say- enjoying video games.
Yeah it's going to be everybody's turn alright 😄 then it gets boring and everyone moves on.
I miss those NFT times…
If everyone ‘moves on’ then the industry as a whole is dead. This is the biggest threat to art of all time. The only way forward is complete zero tolerance. Besides, these sorts of stickers and sprays were always a way to showcase art, sometimes from the community. If they’re not even done by humans, what’s the point?
There's no running from it; it's just a hot topic right now but 2 years ahead - maybe less - it will be commonplace
I am a proponent of AI in games, as long as its done right. It has the ability to speed up development, improve quality overall, and improve our general experience as consumers.
In this instance, an icon that never would have been made was made(allegedly)because it didnt consume any real resources.
Its only going to be more and more until ai usage gets fleshed out.
Love to see it.
At this point, I'll just asume any illustration or artwork is AI generated unless specifically noted as being handmade. That way I can only be positively surprised.
@nessisonett Exactly. People on this very site saying that "it's here to stay", and we should "just accept it or fall behind" is super ironic to me being that we're talking about video games.... which is an artistic medium.... which are created by talented human beings. If we rollover and "accept the inevitable" the people saying this will be the first to start crying that games aren't good any more, and are just a product of AI slop.
@JB_Whiting nuance is important. When certain people "scream" over anything and everything, they achieve the exact opposite result. Even the ones who were with them at first end up being fed up and they just stop listening all together. I've seen it happen over and over again with almost every cause.
Plus, at the moment, even an accusation of use of AI (that may be 100% baseless) can ruin someone or an entire company.
A.I. is a tool. A hammer isn’t morally good or bad but one can use a hammer in morally good or bad ways. The entire discussion is far more nuanced than the discourse I’ve been seeing.
Target acquired.
I think y’all are on about your last leg with the engagement on these articles. It’s not going anywhere and people really don’t care that much either. The development cycles for these games have grown to ridiculous proportions. I mean we are watching a remake of a game made in 1997 take over a decade to be completed, split into three parts. That’s asinine. AI will speed up redundant processes to the joy of most gamers and developers.
Unfortunately for some, A.I. will be the norm' for these Companies going forward imo.
The same way " Practical Effects" were replaced with CGI in Movies and Hand Drawn Cell Animation.
Watched John Carpenter's "The Thing" and "Silent Mobius - The Movie Animation" yesterday and though they don't make them like that anymore.
This attack on devs using Gen AI really needs to stop.
I want to MAKE IT CLEAR: Gen AI is REALLY HELPFUL in saving costs and making development easier for devs. For instance, Clair Obscur used Gen AI and as a result was made for $10 Million.
Stop being ignorant please and understand that AI is not Skynet. Lol. Goodness gracious.
At this point the hand-wringing and fist-shaking is actually getting quite funny.
I look forward to them all leaving gaming forthwith if it upsets their misguided principles that much, and leaving the vast majority of us to enjoy our games without their background 'waaahhhh'
I feel like this is going to be a weekly/daily thing where new X game faces accusations of AI. As i said before like it or not its here to stay so better get used to it.
It's like asking if one poisonous shroom in soup is allowed...
They just keep trying as hard as they can to smuggle AI shi* everywhere.
@MrStark Nice joke 🤣🤣🤣
@JB_Whiting It's not really surprising people have this mindset. This is the same industry that has accepted paying for online multiplayer, day one dlc, microtransactions, lootboxes etc. People don't really care. Power to them I guess, though I personally loathe generative AI and it's usage in real world application.
I've come to find myself not wanting to contribute to comments and discussions like this anymore as it feels like to me people have accepted everything becoming more **** and worse; actively encourage it. All I can do is try to support the games I want to play now whilst they are still around. My only relief so far is that the games shown to be using Gen AI so far are all games I am not personally interested in anyway.
Pushsquare staff have done it again, and now enjoying their popcorn as their engagement rate goes up here with another AI article.. Expect 100+ comments (I've just added to it ey)
Regarding AI, great, keep it coming devs, I for one don't give a poop, so long as the games are great.
It's becoming white noise and will soon become irrelevant. Same thing is happening with table-top game art and I'm sure other areas I'm not aware of.
The most boring topic in gaming is going to rear its head over and over. Let’s just assume that every developer is using ai in some fashion and move on. They won’t stop because 2% of the vocal players moan about it.
Eh, nobody cares
@JB_Whiting I don't think it's really an honest remark anyway. It's not inevitable. Some articles I've read recently suggest that the use of AI in the workplace is actually falling. Presumably because workers and managers, etc., are beginning to realise it's more of a problem than not.
I dunno, AI defenders, I fail to see how using AI to create a bunch of subpar, tonally incongruous decals either makes development more efficient or improves the end experience. If this really was made by AI, it just seems like a fast, cheap way to throw nothing art into the game instead of paying someone to get creative.
Maybe find better examples of gen AI improving something before dismissing its amazing ability to pollute and shrink job markets.
@MrStark What did genAI have to do with that $10 million? All we know — even though we're hearing conflicting accounts — is that it was used for placeholder textures.
Presumably, AI didn't create its art direction, write its story, compose its music, design its gameplay, or manage the whole project. So what exactly do they have AI to thank for?
@naruball I don't really see how us sitting in front of screens for hours on end is a more worthwhile and respectable activity than being actually invested in the state and direction of global culture, industry, and art creation.
This is like talking down to someone for watching the news when they could be watching Mission Impossible instead.
Maybe these anti-AI, quick-to-rage, AI until proven innocent types are overdoing it. But at least that anger stems from a legitimate passion for artistry, worker rights, and/or environmental awareness.
Another day another cry baby article. Move on and stop pearl clutching it's getting old fast.
@naruball I always love seeing your comments because they remind me even humans can have the nuance thinking capabilities of lawn chairs.
Not to poke holes in your logic, but people don't appreciate paying for things that someone made for free. Can you give that some thought and try harder next time you comment something?
@naruball not quite sure as to why you are being negged on here. I thought your comment was Bob on to be honest.
I too believe AI in game development is inevitable but that doesn't mean I'll slop everything with a careless "Whatever". There should be strict regulations to begin with and "art" like in this news or those awful CoD ones really disgusts me; they are really unacceptable.
Someone who is more gun savy than me will probably correct this post, but as far I know, there is a double barrel variant for airsoft.
Also, too many unemployed people trying to chase AI in whatever game they can nowadays.
@naruball right! Just a bunch of outrage hunters and very few gamers.
AI or not, such a obvious mistake shouldn't be making it into the game. Is there no quality control over there?
AI controversy aside R. I. P. Mr Vince Zampella !
If this offends you, touch grass!
The article and comments were generally a lot harsher in just last month's article on the use of AI in another game, Call of Duty.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2025/11/embarrassing-ai-art-plagues-call-of-duty-black-ops-7-launch
Going by this, people seem to be becoming desensitized to it already. AI in games news weary, less outrage and slowly getting used to it.
@8thDoctor
I've wondered that also. You'd think they'd have at least 2 people checking. The outlay of the time checking must surely be less than the potential of bad press and losing sales.
RIP Vince Zampella. What a sad day
@DennisReynolds except people aren’t mad and they’re trying to manufacture outrage. So these articles are already being flamed.
Please, just stop.
Also, my condolences to Vince Zampella's family, friend, and loved ones.
AI is here to stay. Embrace it or get run over.
